Hello, I recently attended the NCCAR conference on Winds of Change in the Arab World: Implications for Canada-Arab Relations. Thank you for an interesting and informative experience. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to get candid opinions from former ambassadors and hear from activists and intellectuals who have been directly involved in the Arab spring social movements.

Much of the discourse made it painfully clear that the current Canadian government is doing more to hinder than to help progressive movements at home and abroad. Our current electoral system allowed the Harper conservatives to take the power they now wield so irresponsibly, and I believe electoral reform is urgently needed for Canada to assume a responsible and peaceful role on the international stage. There is a social movement for electoral reform, Fair Vote Canada/Répresentation Équitable au Canada, http://www.fairvote.ca/ and I would urge all NCCAR members to join it. p.s. A Québec, il y a aussi un autre organisme qui lutte pour la reforme du scrutin--http://www.democratie-nouvelle.qc.ca/accueil.htm.
