Message from the president
In 2007, when you did me the honour of voting me president of NCCAR, I promised to work – to the best of my ability - to deserve your confidence. I also shared with those who were present my intention to build on the excellent work done by all the previous NCCAR teams.
Accordingly, I am happy to report one year later that we have indeed increased our membership, raised funds, engaged members of the government, civil servants, civil society and official representatives from countries in the Arab World. We have been in the media, radio, TV and print and much of this is laid out in the Annual Report.
Good management is a key priority in any organization. Consequently, during this past year, as we dealt with difficult financial and political situations, we also went through a comprehensive phase of reviewing our by-laws and drafting documents that will ensure “transparency” and “accountability”. These are two buzz words… Simply put, transparency allows members and those outside of the organization to see what is going on. It suggests that the board operations are open and visible to interested parties, that important decisions and actions are reported to the members.
Accountability demands that someone be responsible. As members you deserve to hear from us about what we are doing on your behalf, and those on the board need to have clarity on where their responsibilities, duties and obligations lie.
Good governance is all about accountability, transparency and integrity and this is what we have tried to reflect in the new by-laws and other governance documents we have submitted to and approved by the members at our AGM. We have thus set a good solid foundation for the growth of our organization.
