NCCAR Condemns Assassination of Lebanese Cabinet Minister

Ottawa, November 23, 2006 – As Lebanon mourns the death of Lebanese Industry Minister Pierre Gemayel and bids him farewell today, the National Council on Canada-Arab Relations (NCCAR) extends its deepest condolences to the Gemayel family, the people and government of Lebanon and Lebanese Canadians.

“NCCAR was shocked to learn of the assassination of Pierre Gemayel and condemns this heinous act,” said NCCAR Spokesperson Samah Sabawi. “The assassination of Mr. Gemayel is a stark reminder that there are forces at play bent on destabilisation of the country as it recovers from the devastating results of this summer's attacks by Israel.”

NCCAR urges Canada to support Lebanon's efforts to maintain national unity and calm. We strongly believe that peace is the essence of progress and prosperity in Lebanon and the Middle East.
