NCCAR welcomes
new Canada-Palestine Parliamentary Association
Ottawa, April 5th, 2007 – The
National Council on Canada-Arab Relations welcomes the founding of the
Canada-Palestine Parliamentary Association. NCCAR congratulates members of
Parliament Réal Ménard, Omar Alghabra, Libby Davies and the Honourable
Senator Lucie Pépin for spearheading this initiative and carrying it through
fulfillment.
“This
association provides a forum for the Palestinian narrative, absent for so
long from the Hill, to be heard by all Canadian parliamentarians,” said
NCCAR President, Bahija Réghaï.
NCCAR
hopes that this forum will encourage debate and dialogue, will lead to
better understanding of the realities, ideas and culture of the Palestinian
people and of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and will help foster greater
friendship, goodwill, and cooperation between Canadian and Palestinian
parliamentarians. Palestinian interests must be taken into account when
decisions are made and Canadian foreign policy regarding the conflict is
set.
NCCAR
looks forward to a long and constructive contribution on Parliament Hill by
this Association.
