Al-Ahram Weekly is a state-run newspaper that focuses on political, cultural, and social issues. Its staff of writers is extremely knowledgeable about Egyptian life. NCCAR believes it is an important voice in Egypt and internationally. www.weekly.ahram.org.eg

 

 

Tasks to be performed by participant:
The young professional placed at Al-Ahram Weekly will find, research and write stories for publication in news, business and culture. He/she will attend news conferences and events, will be responsible for proposing and following up on ideas, and will also help copy edit.

 

Level of responsibility within the organization:
The participant will be responsible for producing one major article per week in addition to briefs and possibly culture or travel stories. He/she will be supervised by the managing editor.

 

Specific skills that will be developed:
The participant will work with top Egyptian journalists, will learn about how government works and the situation of human rights in the country. He/she will also write for the different sections of the paper--something which may not happen in papers at home.

 

Experience required

·       Solid writing skills

·       Ability to work under pressure

·       Arabic an asset

·       Ability to work with little supervision
