Tasks

The young professional will conduct research on parliamentary performance tools and best practices to help the Parliament of Lebanon develop its capacity. The participant will also undertake general research on democratic reform in the Arab region and will assist with the daily needs of the UNDP project.

Excellent writing skills are required and fluency in French and/or Arabic is an asset.

The candidate will have undertaken the study of parliamentary systems (Canada and other nations) at the undergraduate or graduate level (or as a result of work experience).

Duration of placement:	October 2005 - April 2006
Stipend:	Covers travel, insurance, and about $1400/month in living expenses. Due to the high cost of living in Beirut, participants may be required to undertake their own fundraising.

YPI Participants…

are citizens or permanent residents of Canada with a postsecondary degree or diploma;
are up to and including 30 years of age;
are unemployed or underemployed;
have a genuine interest in permanently entering the labour market and launching an international career (i.e. they are out of school, NOT enrolled in an educational program, and have no current plans to return to school);
are available for the duration of the placement (a minimum of six months);
have NOT participated in another placement of the Career Focus Program of the Youth Employment Strategy.
have NOT had previous career-related paid international work experience;
are not receiving Employment Insurance benefits.
