Terry Rempel, senior researcher at BADIL Resource Center for
Palestinian Residency & Refugee Rights in Bethlehem, West Bank, will be visiting Canada
from May 30 to June 2 as part of a visit arranged by the Canadian
Palestinian Educational Exchange (CEPAL) and the National Council on Canada-Arab
Relations (NCCAR).
Mr. Rempel has been invited by CEPAL (www.cepal.ca)
to launch their 2005 Overseas Summer Program. Nine
qualified volunteers have been recruited this year to teach English and French skills in the
refugee camps of Bourj el-Barajneh, Shatila, and Wavel in Lebanon.
Mr. Rempel is a founding member of BADIL (www.badil.org)
and was responsible for the set up and development of the research and
information unit at BADIL. He is also a Research Fellow at the School of
Historical, Political and Sociological Studies, University of Exeter (UK),
where he is presently a PhD candidate.
Terry Rempel is the author of numerous articles and
several book chapters on the question of Palestinian refugees. His current
research focuses on political participation of refugees in peace
negotiations in comparative perspective. Mr. Rempel is a Canadian citizen
and is originally from Alberta.
NCCAR has taken
on the role of organizing Mr. Rempel's meeting arrangements with members of
Foreign Affairs Canada (FAC), the Canadian International Development Agency
(CIDA) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), as well as
meetings with House of Commons committees and non-governmental organizations that are interested in the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict and issues that have stemmed from it.
CEPAL will be
hosting two lecture events in Ottawa and Montreal featuring guest speaker
Terry Rempel of the BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee
Rights. Terry will discuss BADIL's grassroots structure and address current
issues facing the Palestinian Diaspora in light of recent international and
regional developments.
