Race Relations Foundation at the National Archive of Canada,

in addition to Members of Parliament and several government
public servants. Dr. Ayman Al-Yassini, chairman of Race
Relations Foundation (former president of NCCAR) gave a speech

Ryerson University; author of For Hunger-Proof Cities: Sustainable
Urban Food Systems. The fundraiser will begin at 630 at Maria's
Garden Restaurant, 673 Danforth Avenue (just east of Pape, at Pape
subway). Bring your short performances, speeches, toasts and roasts

The
York-Noor Series 2006-2007 Alpharabius, April 28, 2007 –

Alpharabius is an
ensemble dedicated to exploring the musical interactions of the rich
cultures of the Mediterranean. Performances of classical Arabic and
Western Medieval music will begin at 730pm at the Noor Cultural

The
Annual National Convention of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination
Committee (ADC), June 8-10, 2007 -

The event will take place

Egyptian Director Searching for children of Arab Descent for
Documentary
The documentary will
consist of 26 episodes for a program entitled "Atfal al Mahjar"
(children of migration), produced by Hot Spot Films for the Jazeera
Children's channel. Each episode is a documentary about an Arab
child who lives in (born or moved to) a country other than his/her
own mother land. To appear in this program you should be 9 to15
years old, of Arab descent (at least one parent has to be Arab). For

Voice of Palestine
broadcasts weekly on Vancouver Cooperative Radio (CFRO) 102.7 FM,
Vancouver, Canada. The show broadcasts for one hour every Tuesday
night from 8 to 9 pm (PST). Voice of Palestine is run collectively,
is completely independent, and committed to bringing the often
muffled and neglected voice of the Palestinian people to the

Glyn
R. Berry Memorial Scholarship
Along with his lifetime
of achievements, Glyn Berry graduated with a PhD (Political Science)
from Dalhousie University in 1981. At the end of his nearly 30 years
of distinguished service to Canada, he was Political Director for
the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kandahar. On January 15, 2006,
he was tragically killed in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan.In
Glyn's honour, our Department has partnered with Dalhousie
University to establish the Glyn R. Berry Memorial Scholarship in
International Policy Studies. This full graduate scholarship will be
awarded annually to a PhD candidate in Political Science who
specializes in Canadian foreign policy, defence and security policy,
development assistance policy, or another area addressing Canada's
role in international affairs. It was our pleasure to accompany the
Minister, who represented DFAIT at the Dalhousie ceremony launching
the scholarship on April 2, 2007. The Berry family greatly
appreciated the opportunity to attend. The Professional Association
of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) was also represented, and PAFSO
has made a very substantial contribution to the scholarship funding.

UNDP MENA Division Project Manager,
Institutional Capacity Building Programme (Baghdad, Iraq)
The UN
has been providing the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq with
governance and technical support since its creation. As a result of
the 2006 assessment of the status of permanent Independent Electoral
Commission of Iraq conducted by the Electoral Assistance Department
(EAD), the UNDP-Iraq and its partner agencies are planning a 12
months programme to build and develop the institutional and HR
capacity of the HIECI. In this same period it is anticipated that
the Iraqi Government will announce the second phase of electoral
commitments as stipulated by the Constitution. The training and
development of the HIECI will shift towards the execution of the
elections and resume the programme after the election is concluded.
Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Team Leader Governance and
Civil Society Baghdad (based in Amman), the Capacity Building
Manager will design and implement along with a team of experts and
stakeholders an institutional capacity-building programme for the
HIECI in full coordination with other UN agencies and the EADT based
in Baghdad and Amman. The Project Manager will work closely and with
the EAD to provide advice, and plan activities, ensure full
implementation of programme, hire staff and consultants as needed
and specified in the project document. As well the Manager will
ensure the proper planning, coordination and execution of upcoming
election-related capacity building activities and events in
2007-2008 if and when asked. The Project Manager will build a team
of international and national experts, coordinates with
stakeholders, ensures implementation of planned activities, and
consults with stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Over 7 years experience working in areas of
good governance and management. Bachelors degree in one of the
following disciplines: Political Science, International Relations,
Law, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a
related field, plus a minimum of five years of functionally-related
professional electoral experience; Comparative experience in
election systems and administration, with specific experience in
electoral training and in the design of capacity-building programmes
(specific experience with designing and implementing BRIDGE training
Courses would be an asset); Familiarity with election-related
legislation and international standards in the election field; Prior
experience in Iraq is an asset; English fluency, both written and
spoken; Working knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
Successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following
attributes:
Strong communication (spoken and written)
skills and ability to articulate ideas in a clear and concise
manner; Ability to work in hardship conditions; Cultural and
political sensitivity; Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
