NCCAR's Parliamentary Internship Program for 2007 will be underway again this year. This program allows young Arab-Canadians to gain hands-on experience into the workings of the Canadian Government by interning at a Member of Parliament's office for a 6-week period. This year there are two interns from Montreal and Toronto. We continuously welcome donations to this program in order to assist us in having more interns in the future. If you are interested in donating to this program, please contact Essam Farag at essamfarag@nccar.ca.

40 Years of Israeli Occupation a Visual Arts Show, May 1 – June 16, 2007 – Toronto
40 Years of Israeli Occupation is a visual arts show documenting the lives of Palestinians under Israeli military occupation. This show appears as part of the Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts and will be taking place at the Toronto Free Gallery, 660 Queen St. East with opening reception, May 1 at 6pm. Tour of the exhibit at 7:30pm. The event is free.

The Saudi Peace Plan, May 12, 2007 - Ottawa

Canadian for Justace and piece in the Middle east (CJPME) is pleased to invite you to the next meeting, Saturday, May 12 th, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Ottawa City Hall (Colonel By Room), 110 Laurier Ave W., at Elgin (map below.)  there will be a discussion of the Saudi Peace Proposal, which has gotten surprising new attention and support since it was first introduced.  Find out: What does the Saudi peace plan propose. Who supports it (the US, Israel, the PA), and why. Why there is renewed interest in the plan now. We are in the process of finalizing the arrangements to have a representative from the Saudi Arabian embassy speak to us about the plan, their strategies, and their hopes for success.  It will be a fascinating time of discussion followed by Q&A. CJPME is about grassroots action, so we'll also take a few minutes to highlight some of our work, and a fascinating CJPME documentary which will be presented in our upcoming June meeting. The Annual National Convention of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), June 8-10, 2007 - Washington , DC

The event will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel located at 2500 Calvert Street NW, Washington, DC 20008. Egyptian Director Searching for children of Arab Descent for Documentary
The documentary will consist of 26 episodes for a program entitled "Atfal alMahjar" (children of migration), produced by Hot Spot Films for the Jazeera Children's channel. Each episode is a documentary about an Arab child who lives in (born or moved to) a country other than his/her own mother land. To appear in this program you should be 9 to15 years old, of Arab descent (at least one parent has to be Arab). For more information, please contact Eman ElNaggar at enaggar@hotmail.com
 

The Walls of Nablus, Interview on the Voice of Palestine

Voice of Palestine broadcasts weekly on Vancouver Cooperative Radio (CFRO) 102.7 FM, Vancouver, Canada . The show broadcasts for one hour every Tuesday night from 8 to 9 pm (PST). Voice of Palestine is run collectively, is completely independent, and committed to bringing the often muffled and neglected voice of the Palestinian people to the Canadian public. People outside of Vancouver can listen to the show live on the internet at http://www.coopradio.org/listen/  Wednesday morning from 6am-7am (Palestine time). All shows from the previous month will be posted on the website www.voiceofpalestine.ca at the beginning of each month. 

    

Call for Arab Artists

Canadian Arab Organization of Culture and Art (CAOCA) will be holding its first festival on September 1, 2007. Among the various categories to be demonstrated are music, folklore dance, visual arts as well as the art of calligraphy. All Arab Artists residing in Canada are cordially urged to join CAOCA, by simply sending their CVs and a recent picture to caocaforever@yahoo.ca.

The Canadian Embassy in Lebanon has launched a new system for the Registration of Canadians Abroad (ROCA).

All Canadians living or traveling to Lebanon are encouraged to register in the new ROCA system. Anyone who registered prior to April 10, 2007 MUST re-register in the new system. All registrations received before this date will not be included in the new ROCA system and WILL NO LONGER BE VALID.
