Activities
· On May 4, 2009, NCCAR will launch its new Webinar service, with the first in a series on Canadian Media. A Webinar, or "Web seminar," is a live, interactive online event that allows you to attend a presentation and discussion using the Internet and your phone, from the comfort of your own home. The first seminar is titled “ Palestine, Israel and the Case of the Missing News: What Canadians Are Not Reading In Their Daily Papers. " See the separate email message announcing this new service, or email us for more information at nccar@nccar.ca .
· On April 30, 2009, NCCAR staff member Yacine Dottridge attended a briefing on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Canada by Leilani Farha, Executive Director of the Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA), and Bruce Porter, Executive Director of the Social Rights Advocacy Centre. This presentation, titled Canada's Failure to Protect Fundamental Human Rights, was hosted by the Rideau Institute in Ottawa.
· On April 17, 2009, officials of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) from Ottawa, Winnipeg and Palestine visited the NCCAR office in Ottawa and met with Vice-President Samer Roumani, Board Director Anthony Salloum and staff member Yacine Dottridge. The visiting members of the MCC were in Ottawa to discuss the human rights situation in Palestine with high level public servants, Members of Parliament and government officials. During the meeting, strategies to better engage the government on human rights issues in Palestine were discussed, as well as ways in which NCCAR and the MCC could collaborate in the future.
