Marcel Khalife Radio Interview
On Thursday, Sept 27, at 4.00 pm on CHIN radio 97.9 FM in Ottawa , Marcel Khalife will be interviewed by Lilianne El-Helou in Arabic.   It will also be broadcasted on the web simultaneously; You can listen in  by clicking on the link:: http://www.chinradio.com/ottawa979.html

Help Make History Happen : Mine Action Canada releases Action Toolkit to Ban Cluster Bombs.

Suggested reading - Forseeable Harm: The Use and Impact of Cluster Munitions in Lebanon 2006 (http://www.landmineaction.org/resources/ForeseeableHarmfinal.pdf).

CBC - The Current:  Israeli Lobby Feature: Two American academics are causing some shock and awe over their writings on the U.S. Israeli Lobby. Their theories are considered by critics to be so objectionable that they set off a furor even before they'd been published.

It all began in 2002 when The Atlantic Monthly commissioned an article by two leading experts on international relations. They were asked to write about the role American-Israeli relations play in US foreign policy. 2 years later the article was dead, killed by the magazine forcing the professors to go shopping for a new publisher. It finally went to print last year unleashing a firestorm of criticism. Calls of anti-semitism.

Now the authors have spun their article into a book called, The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy. And with that another literary grenade has been lobbed into the political arena.

To discuss his argument and the intense reaction to it, we were joined by co-author John Mearsheimer. He teaches political science at the University of Chicago . http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/2007/200709/20070912.

Marcel Khalife US and Canada Tour: Renowned artist, Author, Composer, and UNESCO Artist for peace Canada Tour

Marcel Khalife (b. 1950, Amchit, Mount Lebanon ) is a Lebanese composer, singer and oud (an Arabic lute) player, considered a Palestinian among the Palestinians, a Southerner among the South Lebanese and most commonly an Arab musician. From 1970 to 1975, he taught at the conservatory in Beirut . In 1976, he created Al Mayadeen Ensemble and became famous all over the world for songs like Ummi (My Mother), Rita w'al-Bundaqiya (Rita and the Rifle) and Jawaz al-Safr (Passport), based on Mahmoud Darwish's poetry. In 1999 he was granted the Palestine Award for Music. In turn, he contributed the financial portion of the award to the National Conservatory of Music at Birzeit University in Palestine . In 2005, Khalife was named UNESCO Artist for Peace. Film Screening: The Yacoubian Building – October 7 – Toronto

The LCHA is proud to present its first film in the LCHA movie night series-The Yacoubian Building . The film is based on the novel of the same title by author Alaa Al Aswany. Like the novel which is set in 1990 at about the time of the first Gulf War, the film is a portrayal of modern Egyptian society since the coup d'état of 1952. The setting is downtown Cairo , with the Yacoubian apartment building (which actually exists) serving as both a metaphor for contemporary Egypt and a unifying location in which most of the primary characters either live or work and in which much of the action takes place. The movie will be presented in the LCHA hall at 4480, Côte-de-Liesse, Suite 105 . The movie is free of charge and it runs for two and a half hours. Due to the mature subject matter of this film, it is not appropriate for children under the age of 13. Popcorn and refreshments will be served.
