- NCCAR encourages you to vote in Canada's 40th General Election which will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 . Advance polling days are on October 3, 4 and 6 . The nomination for candidates closes on September 22, 2008. A complete official list of confirmed candidates will be available on September 25, 2008 from Elections Canada . You can find more information by visiting www.nccar.ca . NCCAR is a non-partisan organization and does not specifically support a single party or candidate in any riding.
- NCCAR president, Bahija Réghaï wrote a letter to the Ottawa Citizen in response to editor Leonard Stern's column Guarding the Green Gates . Réghaï's letter was published on September 16 th 2008 under the title Stepping on the 'bugs ' .
- On September 17 th , 2008, Bahija Réghaï, NCCAR president, took part in a panel titled “Working for Peace: What you can do.” The panel convened after the showing of the play "My Name is Rachel Corrie,” which is based on the life of young American civil rights activist Rachel Corrie who was killed in 2003 by an Israeli Forces bulldozer as she attempted to prevent the destruction of a Palestinian home in Gaza.
- NCCAR is co-sponsoring the launch of “Steps in the Rights Direction: 365 Human Rights celebrations and tragedies” by Stephen Hammond on Monday, October 7 th 2008 in the Auditorium of the Ottawa Public Library, 120 Metcalfe St. at 7 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm). Hammond, a human rights author and speaker, will be present at the event. He will be touring Canada to deliver speeches about Canada's human rights history and the importance of human rights today.
